Through the years, technology has been innovating itself not just to be efficient and competent but now, also environmental friendly. We've had eco-friendly cars come out of the woodwork and we've had friendlier air-conditioners and even companies with several servers cut back on carbon emission simply by cooling the specific parts of the server that need to be cooled. Suffice to say, we've all become very concerned about the environment not only because we're afraid of global warming, but also because it just conserves the environment and the limited amount of power source that we have. Back in June, China released the first ever solar powered cell phone. With the price tag of $510, you get the standard cell phone with a 1.3 mega pixel camera, an mp3 player and of course it runs on solar energy. advertisement
It isn't only limited to sunlight, but it can also charge itself from any kind of light that you may have available indoors even candle light. If you put it under the sun for an hour, you get about 40 minutes of talk time. While I'm not a paid advertiser for Hitech Wealth, the Chinese company that released it first, but I do think that it’s pretty useful. Sure, charging a cell phone at home or at the office might not take too much time nor does it take a lot out of your electric bill, but if you think of the amount of electricity that you spend when you charge over the year, you'll notice that the little things just add up.
Not only will charge it from renewable energy source, but you get it for free. I consider myself to be a bit lazy. If I'm dong work downstairs and I left my cell phone charger in the bedroom upstairs, I'd be too lazy to get off my butt, go upstairs and have charge it. It doesn't only just work for lazy folk like me that sit next to open windows, but it also works for people that go hiking. You're climbing that hill and you notice that your cell is about to give out, and you really wanted to take advantage of the great signal at the peak. A lot of the popular brand names have solar phones of their own out in the market so you have lot's to choose from. Samsung, true to their environment friendly theme built the Blue Earth cell phone that isn't only solar powered but also made from recycled plastic. And with the performance capacity that's demanded from a cell phone, Sharp released one that is water proof. In response to this innovation, the NTT DoCoMo, to be released in September in Japan, claims to be water proof for up to 30 minutes immersed under a meter of water. If you want to check the phone out, you can head over to Japan and check it out at the Wireless Japan 2009 exhibition. The exhibition should showcase a lot of the yet to be wonders in wireless technology and the popular ones that are already in the market. "Green" gadgets are probably one of the biggest fads out there on the market. You have people out there sporting eco-friendly clothes, accessories and gadgets because they're not only helpful to the environment but they're also pretty functional and efficient. Personally, I don't really go for the latest cell phone out there because as long as my current one still does whatever I need it to do I have no reason to get a new one. You should keep that in mind too. I just like the idea of a solar cell phone because it reminded me of the solar powered calculator and I had a nostalgic moment and marveled at the pace of technological growth.
