Everyone probably knows what card tricks are right? You pick a card, any card, from a deck and then put it back inside. Once you've put it back in, the person performing the trick will probably ask you to think of your card and then magically pull it out from the deck. Familiar, right? Did that confuse you? Probably not. You might not know how it really happens but there isn't a deep dark mystery to it, it's simply just a magic trick. Now, if you think it isn't worth showing around to your friends and you don't want your multi-billion dollar phone running applications like that, then you should probably be part of the team that screens applications for the app store... advertisement
Or not. We all know the weird and dubious tale of Apple banning some applications from their app store. We know how they kept Google Voice away in favor of AT&T but now Apple is making amends and has already made amends in the form of Phil Schiller. In an article on Techcrunch, Apple Senior Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing Phil Schiller is reported to have turned into the outstretched hand reaching out to developers and helping them get their apps approved. Theory 11 is one of the developers that had their application rejected from the store. Rising Card, as the application is aptly, performs the trick that I've described above, only it's on the iPhone. All you have to do is give it a little shake and poof! "Is this your card sir?" Apparently, during the screening process, somebody decided that it might confuse costumers since our puny minds might not comprehend the properties of a magic trick, but since Schiller has started helping rejected developers, you can now find Rising Card on the app store for $2.99.
Apple has come into incredible scrutiny because of the entire screening dispute because no one outside the company knows how the entire system works. They can post criteria and guidelines about what the developers can't do but when it finally comes down to the final say, no one knows what mysterious cultic rite the Apple board performs to accept or reject what's been put on their table. As such, the FCC is conducting an investigation on the matter because it turns out; they wanted to have Google Voice. It's pretty cool the Schiller is taking the developers into consideration and I hope his act will open doors for other people who were rejected. I just hope that this wave of sympathy will spread out among the other Apple executives and that they pay attention to all the other people writing their own blogs about their products because we are the consumers. A lot of us already know what we want. We like Apple and their amazing products because of their nice simple design and sleekness, but they have an air of espionage about them that makes them so scary. Then again, other computer giants aren’t that much different from Apple. Isn’t that right Bill?
