Not only do we get great smartphones like the iPhone or Android but now we're getting the Google smartphone. They've been a rumor before but now it's official, the phone is coming out early in 2010, a bit of a let down since it could have been released in the holiday seasons but, we'll get what we can take.
Reportedly, the phone won't be produced by Google, but it will carry their brand name. All the manufacturing will be done by some Korean manufacturing company. It should be good to see their vision of how a smartphone should be; I mean take a look at what they did with Chrome. advertisement
We can be sure that they removed the useless junk and going back to what’s essential about connecting.
As for OS and apps we can expect is that it'll be a lot like Android, but with less bugs. But what I'd really like to see on the phone would be an app for Google Wave. I think we can expect a lot of the company’s apps crammed into it, so much so that it might not be another smartphone but a mobile extension of the online entity. With Google Voice in hand, it will mostly be a VoIP(voice over IP) device, with most of the action still happening over the internet.
I think it’s pretty amazing how Google seems to be in everything now, but it’s also pretty scary.
I mean their tagline is “Don’t be evil”, but I can only hope that it stays true until the end. Not only do we trust them to give us the best search engine results, map sources, e-mail service and what not, but we also give them a lot of our private information. They don’t just hold on to our personal thoughts through blogs and e-mails but they also hold company information for the companies that use their servers to store their information. If they still hold true to their mantra after a few more years (which shouldn’t be too hard since they’re a giant among giants now), then they really are the company to trust with our digital lives.
