Laptops can be hell to take care of. If you can constantly upgrade your desktop parts so that you'll never have to buy a new desktop, you can't replace every part of your laptop. Most of them don't even last very long. Never mind that the battery doesn't last as long as it used to or if it's functional at all. As it is, you're spending a whole lot of money on a piece of technology that'll have a lifetime of 5 years tops and will be outdated a year and a half after its release. Speaking in technological terms, that's a pretty good deal considering that you should rotate a car every 3 years, but then we're not speaking in technological terms. advertisement
In all practicality, you don't need to suffer extreme technological degradation. Even the best laptop won't work as well 5 years after you buy it, but let's cushion that deadline shall we? The outer appearance will take the first hit. The main reason you buy a laptop is because you want to use on a computer anywhere you go. When you're not careful in handling it, you make it susceptible to scratches, dust and you'll risk losing some of the parts. For example, the rubber under some of them might wear out if you handle them to carelessly. The simple solution to that is careful handling. If you want to keep it free from scratches, then you can try using a vinyl sheet to cover it.
It isn't just protection from scratches; you can get creative with the design and produce some eye candy. Dust is one of the things that you need to follow around. Use a clean brush to get around your keyboards and a piece of cloth for your monitor, the kind that's used for eye glasses so you don't do any damage. If you want to extend your laptop battery life, I suggest you only charge the battery when it's empty and you keep yourself from using it while it's plugged in. Why is that? Your laptop batteries need to be kept in a certain state of use. If it doesn't get used, the battery will run out faster and will become totally useless. So if you don't want to fork over money for a new battery you can do three simple things. A.) You can remove the battery while the laptop is plugged in B.) Avoid exposing it to heat and C.) When it's half empty (you can see that while you're working) turn it off and store the battery in the refrigerator. NOT the freezer! If you can follow all this then you can do alright. You won’t be able to stop the uneventful death of any piece of technology, but if you do a little laptop maintenance, it'll be long before you need a replacement.
