Windows 7 has been out for three months now and it's common knowledge that it's better than Windows Vista. There are reports coming in about bugs and the like finally being uncovered, but it's still the better OS. The past few days I've heard about some people who still haven't transferred over to Vista. This just begs the question: Why? Why are they still on Vista? There are good reasons for not upgrading, one of them might be financial, one of them might be time constraints, but please don't let it be laziness.
I enjoy specifics. I don't like it when things are generalized because you miss some of the important facts.
Google Wave is the newest form of online communication that takes chatting, forum posting, e-mailing, social networking and other forms of communication mediums that I can't remember right now, and combined it into a simple browser based application. Yes, I mean it. It's very simple. You can chat with several people in real time or just use it as you would a forum. The possibilities are endless. Mashable even has a very good manual of what Google Wave can do and it's actually helped me understand the application more. There are a lot of ways that you can use it, but let's stop talking of things in general.
When it comes to really good software, you don't have to look beyond anything that's not for free. In a world where software is expensive, we shouldn't overlook that the free stuff that we find online. It's true that there are things that are better when you pay for them, but you simply cannot scoff at the achievements of free software. They're well beyond competent and some of them offer better services than some of the software that you have to pay for. If we've learned anything from Google is that free and affordable services can and will out pace anything a lot of the other competitors.
Now that we know what can go right with Google Chrome, we can take a look at the opposite side of the coin and see it for its many disadvantages.
1. You need to be on the net... Always! This is by far the biggest concern I have with Chrome. You have to do everything online and not offline. Given that it doesn't promise a great offline experience shouldn't mean that you should have no offline experience at all. What happens when you're suddenly disconnected from the web? It's almost equivalent to a sudden restart or, to the worse extent, a crash. 2.
There's a lot of speculation going on about Google's OS; a lot of it is that it's too different to work. Well, the company does have a thing for making things work. If you're open to the idea, you can make the OS work for you too.
1. It's free. Sure, the Linux distribution has been around for years, but Google is a name that's familiar to everyone and has become synonymous with free and affordable services (not to mention trustworthy). Plus the fact that it's open source means that it can be improved by anyone anywhere.
Chrome OS, has been released to open source and is now ready for download at a torrent site near you. The wait is over but, are curiosities satisfied? The Google Chrome OS is everything Google said it would be. It's a new kind of system experience, it's incredibly light and it really should be an operating system for netbooks.
Why does Chrome change the user experience? That's because you've never had an operating system that was a pure browser. That's right. When you start up your computer, you'll be greeted by the Chrome browser waiting to take you into the internet, but it's an incredibly quick boot.
You won't be able to do anything offline since all of the applications need to be connected to the internet to function.
The Google Chrome OS might be the new kid on the block that's out to threaten operating systems like Mac or Windows, but it's going to have to prove a lot of things or otherwise, just prove itself to it's own people who spend most of their time on the internet. Luckily for us, we're not going to have wait any longer for our questions to be answered since chrome will be available for download sometime this week. There are several things to expect from it but, there might be people out there that might expect too much from it.
For one thing, the Google Chrome OS is meant for netbooks rather than full blown desktops.
Remote Assistance is one of the most important tools to help beginners out. With new users trying Windows 7 and old users upgrading to the new OS, there are bound to be things that can't be understood. Luckily there's Remote Assistance. Simply put, it's a simple program that allows someone else to take control of your computer. While they're taking control of your computer, you can see what your assister is doing so that you know how to do things yourself.
Microsoft knows how risky that is for you, so you need to deal with some security measures before you can turn over control of your desktop to someone else, but that doesn't mean that you don't have any level of control whenever you give someone remote access to your PC.
If you're one of the few chosen people to try Retweet Beta on Twitter, congratulations, you don't have to deal with preceding your tweet with an RT. This is pretty much all it does. Oh, did I forget the fact that you don't get to edit whatever you retweet?
Unlike Twitter Lists, Retweet is a simpler innovation to the social networking website. If you've been chosen to be part of the beta group, then you'll notice that the Retweet option is now available. It's located right next to the Reply option in all Tweets. And whenever you want to Retweet something you press it and it'll ask you if you want to Retweet to your followers.
PC security is a very touchy issue for all Windows users if not computer users in general. With a lot of users upgrading to Windows 7, I certainly hope that no one has forgotten to upgrade their security. As advanced as it is, 7 is still almost as vulnerable as Microsoft’s older line of operating systems when it comes to dealing with malware. I'm saying that it's almost as vulnerable because there are changes in Windows 7 that doesn't allow some of the viruses to work. In one 7 experiment where a computer was clean installed and uploaded with 10 different kinds of viruses, only 8 were able to function correctly.
