I'm sure that a lot of us have trouble with e-mail from time to time. If it's not one thing it's another. Am I right? But I guess that one thing that we have probably done at one point in our lives is send someone the wrong e-mail. When you have an argument, you can say all sorts of nasty things, but these messengers are tricky little things. On Yahoo! messenger, for example, a new chat window opens up and gets priority over anything else that you've been doing, even while you're currently typing. So if you weren't looking at what you were typing and suddenly pressed the send button you'd probably send a hate message to that girl you liked who sent you an instant message, or even worse, you could have sent a hate message to your mom. advertisement
I'm sure that you think the answer is simple: Don't be an idiot, just check what you wrote down before you send it out. Yeah, that is the proper answer, but what can I say, most people are just stupid. Well, Google now has a way for you not to mess up. Well, the plan isn't full-proof, but if you have a Gmail account, you might have the chance to save yourself from sending your mail to the wrong Bob. You can check out the Google blog post here. Obviously it doesn't necessarily just apply to everyone on your list whose first name is Bob. On your Gmail page you need to go to the settings link on the upper right corner of the page.
You’ll be sent to the Settings page and you'll see a series of tabs. Click on the Tab that says Labs. If you've never explored Labs before, it's the non-essential add ons you can enable on your Gmail account. A lot of them are pretty useful and some are very entertaining to have. "Got the wrong Bob?" is around the bottom half of the list. All you have to do is enable the program and then click the "save changes" button on the bottom part of the screen. While you're at it, you can check out the other Labs features that are available. You might find that some of them can be pretty fun. One of the stuff that you might be interested in is playing with the classic Snake game while you’re looking for the right kind of distraction to take your eyes off the mail you haven’t caught up on. If you’re tired of looking at the generic Gmail lay out, you can change the Gmail skin into something a little more pleasing to the eye. Head over to the settings tab again and pick the theme that you want, you can pick from the designs available or make your own color combination. Before I forget, Don’t Forget Bob. It’s also part of the new Labs feature that reminds you that you might be forgetting one of your usual recipients. Gmail actually keeps track of your patterns so that it won’t just stop you from sending to the wrong person, but it’ll keep you from leaving someone out of your usual mailing list.
