If you're one of the few chosen people to try Retweet Beta on Twitter, congratulations, you don't have to deal with preceding your tweet with an RT. This is pretty much all it does. Oh, did I forget the fact that you don't get to edit whatever you retweet?
Unlike Twitter Lists, Retweet is a simpler innovation to the social networking website. If you've been chosen to be part of the beta group, then you'll notice that the Retweet option is now available. It's located right next to the Reply option in all Tweets. And whenever you want to Retweet something you press it and it'll ask you if you want to Retweet to your followers. advertisement
When you've done that, it automatically gets Tweeted. It's clean and simple the way the rest of Twitter functions. Which is to say that it doesn't allow a lot of function at all.
I like the fact that RT is now replace by its own logo but then that just provides a little comfort to the eyes. I think that if Twitter wanted to do a change, it should have done a huge change. They already started us on Lists, which I think was a pretty good innovation since it actually changed the way you treated Tweets, but then actually doing a Beta version to test out the elimination of two characters from a text box is simply absurd.
I think they might be looking back at when they did a major change a few months back, but then the changes they did to how you could follow or unfollow people was such a major disappointment and it still is. It can work for people who have a short list of followers or a short list of people they follow, but they fail to remember that Twitter caters to people who amass thousands of followers.
This Retweet simply isn't worth the attention that Twitter gave it. You might wonder why I'm writing about it if it isn't worth the attention, but I think you need to question how serious these people take their users. It's crashed several times, there's simply too much spam on it and the worse part is, that the best way to use Twitter is from a third party application that tries to make sense of a simple social networking site that still manages to complicate things. Tweetdeck is just one of the applications that helps make things easier, I prefer Twollo myself but then it isn’t a free application.
