Chrome OS, has been released to open source and is now ready for download at a torrent site near you. The wait is over but, are curiosities satisfied? The Google Chrome OS is everything Google said it would be. It's a new kind of system experience, it's incredibly light and it really should be an operating system for netbooks.
Why does Chrome change the user experience? That's because you've never had an operating system that was a pure browser. That's right. When you start up your computer, you'll be greeted by the Chrome browser waiting to take you into the internet, but it's an incredibly quick boot.
You won't be able to do anything offline since all of the applications need to be connected to the internet to function. advertisement
Yes, I do mean everything. Who needs a hard drive? The system won't need a hard drive since al your save space is going to be online. It's all going to be in a Google server somewhere so you don't need to worry about viruses or a system crash on your part, but then that leaves a lot more to be worried about.
I'm all for innovative thinking but this is really out of the box and it fails to be appealing on so man levels. It's true that the company did say that they were building it for netbooks, but being solely dependent on the internet is not something that I enjoy about it. For one thing, you won't have constant access to the internet. Unless netbboks develop cellular web access like the kindle does, it's simply not going to be convenient for a lot of users.
I can see this working as an OS of choice among students who can get wifi access from their campus or in an office but the thing is, I generally don't see this as an OS of choice.
It would have a lot of appeal if the OS was complete in itself, but it will actually require you to buy Google hardware when it becomes available later in the future. There’s simply no flexibility in this other than having the technical knowledge to do an improvement by yourself, which simply isn’t an option for most users. I guess that’s the best part of being open source, you can rely on other people to improve what you’ve already made.
Chrome could have been more than it as but it comes out exactly as it said it would be. I don’t expect to see a lot of users shifting to Chrome but it’ll definitely work for netbook owners that have unlimited internet access. You don’t really run games or huge editing software on netbooks, but people do play music and watch movies on it. How are people going to transfer their libraries into the cloud?
