Last week, several users were finally introduced to the beta version of Twitter Lists. While some people still might not be able to experience the new feature, a huge majority of users have already started editing their profiles to include their favorite Twitter users and tweets. While some people don't think that it's an entirely new or important feature, it certainly does help identify what kind of person the list owner is. It's like introducing someone to your favorite playlist on your iPod.
Basically Twitter Lists is a shorter and more specialized list of the people that you're following. It's located on the upper right portion of your screen where your "tweets" tab used to be. To some users, there's a beta version available to them right on their Twitter homepage. advertisement
It's actually as easy as it seems to be. To start, all you have to do is create a name for the list you're making and then select whether you want it to be private or public.
The way I see it, this is a great addition to Twitter because it allows other Tweeters to know what other people are all about. Let's get back to the playlist analogy. When you build playlist it's usually filled with your favorite songs and songs that you want other people to hear about. If you set your list to public people can get a better idea of who you are.
Lists also work for people who have an over flowing homepage that comes from having too many friends tweeting about their life.
It grants users the power to focus on the people that they really want to catch up on, whether they be significant other, sibling, bestfriend or your daily dose of wise quotes.
I may not be a big fan of Twitter, but this is certainly a step in the right direction. It gives more character to your profile, it makes Tweets more personalized and specialized and most importantly, you don't have to deal with the torrent of other stuff that you have to read from the other half of the thousands you're following. As a user, I'm glad that I'm able to catch up on the tech news without plodding through the other discussions that I'd rather not see. And if I'm in the mood to read about other people i can easily access them on my list. The communication has become extremely convenient.
