Tags: computer software, software, the best feature of windows 7
I guess there's a lot to say about Windows 7 because I'm doing another take on the much anticipated Microsoft baby. I've been reading a bunch of feedbacks from everyone else who's tried the beta version of Windows 7 and the general notion is that it will be way better than Vista and it will be the step-up that Vista wasn't. I guess that's pretty much a given considering how a lot of people turned back to Windows XP when they got really tired of how Vista worked, but I personally think it wasn't all that bad. What's the best feature of Windows 7? Answer: the desktop. The desktop was basically one of the things I liked about its predecessor, but it gave me a clunky feeling. advertisement
The new desktop has the entire nice sleek feel, but none of the clunkiness. XP was pretty good, but I found myself tweaking it to give it the nice sleek feel. If you want to tweak your desktop, I recommend rainmeter. If you want to learn more about it, I'd go to customize.org. It has a friendly user base and they have lots of styles to share. The Windows 7 taskbar has a Dock-ish feel to it, but it doesn't get in the way of the stuff that you put on your desktop. You don't find yourself clicking on random stuff on the taskbar because it’s on the taskbar and it doesn't get in the way of the shortcuts or Windows that are already active.
It's just, very conveniently, out of the way and it's still as fancy as a dock. Speaking of a window that isn't in the way; now you see them, now you don't. It's not really the invisible window that's cool, but the single button that makes them disappear and reappear at the same time. I know I've written about that before, but the sheer convenience and simplicity of it is very much appreciated. The media player is one of the more interesting developments. Making it playable while searching for files on explorer is nifty, but the picture on picture feel of the media player on desktop is a bit annoying. Then again, I never did like picture on picture and there's always the minimize button for that. I personally have high hopes for Windows 7 but a lot is being expected from it and the free Google OS will be out soon after them. There should be a little difference from the beta version, but there can only be improvements from there. Google has much to prove with their upcoming release, quite possibly next year, but I have high hopes for it. In any case, I'm much more excited to get my hands on Xbox Project Natal and the upcoming games that can be nothing less than awesome.
