Tags: computer software, software, the new google algorithm
This may be very relevant news to a lot of people, although casual users may not feel a drastic change, but Google has announced and released their new search engine. The search giant dubbed their new baby Caffeine, which should be much faster and should deliver the results that you want to see and sort out the junk that you don’t want to see. Now while this may not bother most people, it should mean a great deal to anyone whose business relies on their searchability. So this goes out to anyone whose business is already on the internet, which is to say, is a whole lot of people and practically everyone who uses the internet from web developers to online dating services. advertisement
According to the Google blog; "It's the first step in a process that will let us push the envelope on size, indexing speed, accuracy, comprehensiveness and other dimensions." At the moment, they’re trying to work out kinks and the best way to do that is make it available to the public. As a citizen of the internet, you'd be doing them and yourself a big favor if you tried your searches at http://www2.sandbox.google.com/. They'll be happy to receive your feedback; just don't expect them to get back to you with a reply. If you do have a complaint about it then you can click on the “dissatisfied?” link somewhere on the page.
Generally, there will be a difference between the ranks of the sites. Search engines will often give very different results in terms of ranking and some might do away with other sites found because they're probably full of spam. The company believes that users shouldn't be made to cull through the ridiculous amount of spam that's on the internet therefore Caffeine is entirely pertinent. Basically, this is a chance for anyone in the search engine optimization business to test out the new Google algorithm. With the recent purchase of Yahoo! however, I don't believe that a shock to website owners is the best way to keep the market. But then again this is Google we're talking about; it's turned into a household name that's become synonymous with searching on the internet. People will go for it because it's familiar and it has a simple homepage interface. Although it may take a bit more time before Caffeine becomes the official engine, it will inevitably be the one that'll be applied on the home page. So if you tried it out and you believe that there is a significant difference between the new results you get, then you should probably do some contribution. You could do an extensive study and compare all the results from several different sites to your Google search, but then they don’t pay you for that. You probably won’t feel the difference anyway.
